In the Diocese of Buffalo, the Sacrament of Confirmation is usually celebration in the high school years as completion of the Sacraments of Initiation. Celebration of this sacrament invites the unique charisms of the Holy Spirit to be fully embraced by the candidate.
Ideally, preparation for this sacrament follows at least two years of high school religious education either in the parish program or Catholic high school. For more information about this program, please contact St. John’s Religious Education Office.
Some adults who have been baptized may also feel drawn to complete their initiation into the Catholic faith through the Sacrament of Confirmation. This process gives personal attention to the specific needs of the adult candidate so that they can enter fully into the preparation process.

The Confirmation program invites high school sophomores who attend a Catholic high school and public high school students enrolled in the religious
education program to attend seminars beginning in January of sophomore year. Confirmation seminars are required by the Diocese of Buffalo and focus on the gifts of the Holy Spirit. The seminars meet on Sunday morning from 10:30-11:45am followed by the 12:00 mass. Each student is required to attend one retreat which is held on Sunday. Retreats begin at the 12:00 mass; after Mass pizza is served in the old convent followed by the retreat and prayer in the Chapel.
Confirmation sponsors are required to be practicing Catholics and need a letter of recommendation from their parish. Parents of the Confirmed are not eligible to be sponsors.
All Confirmation candidates need a copy of their Baptismal certificate to register for our program.
